Si presenta una parabola che illustra una via verso la pace interiore e del mondo in linea con gli insegnamenti di Gesù Cristo. Usando principi universali che riguardano la turbolenza naturale, scoperti recentemente attraverso la scienza della complessità, questo lavoro mostra come nozioni semplici dalla scienza moderna ci consentano di visualizzare le conseguenze delle azioni personali e collettive e come queste idee ci invitino, per mezzo della ragione e della fede, a cercare armonia e amicizia in una condizione simbolizzata dalla ipotenusa di un triangolo rettangolo. Scritta con uno stile che invita alla riflessione e alla scoperta interiore, La Ipotenusa utilizza il format di una favola illustrata, con persone che camminano sulla sommità di diagrammi scientifici, per intessere concetti e simboli dalla matematica, física, politica, economia e dalla morale, in un modo originale e inaspettato.
Il lavoro narrativo inizia con una citazione "geometrica" dal Vangelo di Luca (Lc 3:4-6), seguito da una prefazione e da un preludio che preparano il palcoscenico per il testo principale. La narrazione poi si divide in quattro sezioni principali: un po' di storia, un po' di matematica, un po' di fisica, e un po' di buonsenso, che sono supportate da una serie di note, alla fine del libro, contenenti riferimenti pertinenti e spiegazioni aggiuntive al testo. Infine, la storia include una collezione di poesie-canzoni che intrecciano ulteriormente i simboli nelle parabole, un postludio che enfatizza l'amore come soluzione ai demoni che tutti noi affrontiamo, e un'altra citazione biblica che rinforza il messaggio della parabola, questa volta dal vangelo di Matteo (Mt 19:16-24)
